HISTORY

The Wisconsin Wolves are proud to announce that they will join the Women's Football Alliance for the 2011 season.

The Wisconsin Wolves are a women's tackle football located in Wausau, WI. The team started when owners Mark and Mary Dearth watched their daughter play football in high school. Then, after high school, a football tryout landed her on the Wisconsin Riveters, based in Kenosha, Wi.. Mark started coaching and got hooked, from that day on has been involved with coaching Women's Football. Mark and Mary own the Wisconsin Wolves and have made a name for themselves as one of the premier teams in the Midwest.

The determination, competitiveness and perseverance in the idea of giving women an avenue to play football is what drove the Dearth's to continue with the team. The love of the game and the passion that the players show is what drives the Wolves to maintain their reputation as a hard hitting team. The Wolves started in the WPFL, Women's Professional Football League, in 2006 and then play in the IWFL, Independent Women's Football League. In 2006 the Wolves had a 6-4 inaugural year (one game away from the championship). In 2007 they recorded an 8-4 record and again one game away from the championship. The team sent 11 players to the Pro Bowl in the first year, 2006. Mary Dearth was named General Manager of the Year.

The Wolves' players come from all walks of life: teachers, auto mechanics, fire personnel, students, nurses, and moms; the list goes on. The one thing they all have in common is that they want to play football, and they play for the love of the game. The Wolves play full contact tackle, requiring helmets, shoulder pads, and any misc. padding a player desires. Football is not a sport for just anyone; the athletes realize that not many have

the athletic and mental ability to play the game. Individuals who possess the ability to perform the sills mentally and physically necessary on the field are truly in the minority. Society has changed its views on women in athletics. "We can do anything we put our minds to."
